(Battersea) Power to The People

This summer’s UK General Election turned into one of the most extraordinary in recent times. The Prime Minister, Theresa May had a near 20 point lead in the polls when the snap election was announced. The Government was therefore confident of securing a sizeable and indeed, greater parliamentary majority.

They say a week is a long time in politics but 8 weeks…well, a lot can and did happen in that time. The results on the night lead to a hung Parliament, with many famous and longstanding MPs losing their seats and many new MPs seizing the opportunity to take their place.

One such candidate was the Labour Party Candidate for the London Borough of Battersea, Marsha De Cordova who defeated the incumbent Conservative MP Jane Ellison, overturning an 11% Majority from the 2015 General Election.

De Cordova suffers from Nystagmus and is registered blind. Nystagmus is a condition of involuntary (or voluntary, in rare cases) eye movement, acquired in infancy or later in life, that may result in reduced or limited vision.

Most recently, de Cordova worked at leading sight loss charity Thomas Pocklington Trust where she was the Director of Engagement and Advocacy. She was previously the Chief Executive Officer for the charity South East London Vision and before that, worked for Action for Blind People.

Conspexit has taken on the challenge of raising awareness around sight loss and celebrating individuals such as Marsha de Cordova who inspire and personify our mantra, World Without Limitations!
